FAQs
Where does this funding come from?
Recently, the province requested that municipalities use funds sitting in Parkland Reserves. This fund consists of payments made to a municipality by developers on a cash-in-lieu basis to fulfill requirements for dedicating land for public parks or open spaces. In some cases, developers may find it difficult to dedicate land due to site constraints, land availability, or project requirements. In these cases, developers may request to contribute cash to the municipality as an alternative. By using these funds strategically, municipalities can enhance recreational opportunities, improve quality of life for residents or promote environmental conservation.
Why is this funding focused only on Athol-South Marysburgh?
Parkland reserves are tied to the geography of the project. In this instance, development projects within the town of Athol-South Marysburgh contributed to the Parkland Reserve fund.
