In September 2020, County Council enacted Interim Control By-law No. 177-2020 to freeze development within the Wellington Urban Centre from expanding into un-serviced areas for a period of one year.

The purpose of the Interim Control By-law is to provide an opportunity to review current land use policies within the Wellington Urban Centre Secondary Plan with consideration for the new municipal servicing proposal. As the Wellington Master Servicing Plan looks beyond the Secondary Plan planning horizon to a full build-out solution for the Village of Wellington, the Secondary Plan is currently being reviewed to ensure existing policies, land uses, and mapping align and all municipal documents complement each other.
