The Hotel Association of Canada has launched Safe Stay, an industry-wide, enhanced standard of health and safety protocols for Canada's hotels to safely welcome back guests and employees as the economy reopens.

Municipal Accommodation Tax implementation delayed

Council approved the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) in April, but delayed its enactment until a future date given the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Municipal staff will consult the accommodation sector and recommend an appropriate MAT implementation date. Accommodation providers will receive at least 90 days of notice prior to the implementation date so that they can make the technical changes to their operations in preparation for collecting the MAT.
