In Spring 2025, Prince Edward County Council approved the formation of a Child Care Task Team to explore ways the municipality could help address the shortage of child care for local families. The Task Team included representatives from The HUB Child and Family Centre, the PEC Needs Child Care Collective, the County of Prince Edward, municipal Councillors, the Baxter Centre, the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB), and Prince Edward–Lennox and Addington Social Services (PELASS).
Working collaboratively, the group identified opportunities and developed recommendations for how the municipality can support the local child care sector. These recommendations are outlined in the Child Care Action Plan, which was presented to, and approved by Council in October 2025.
An ad hoc working group made up of local organizations and interested community members will continue collaborating to support and strengthen child care in Prince Edward County. If you’re interested in joining the group or learning more, please get in touch!

We're seeking input from employers to better understand how the local childcare shortage is affecting your employees, and in turn, your operations. Your responses will help assess the economic impact of limited childcare in PEC and guide how the municipality can support or encourage the creation of more childcare spaces locally.
