The County of Prince Edward is seeking feedback on how the public is using the municipally operated boat launch areas. This survey seeks detail on how and when the public is using these water access points. We want to hear from boaters as well as all residents and visitors who are using these spaces in some way! The goals of this consultation are:<ul><li>To provide a detailed understanding of all the ways that the boat launch areas are currently being used</li><li>To assess the level of usage of the boat launch areas and amenities</li><li>To identify if these water access points are more heavily used by residents or tourists</li><li>To obtain feedback from the public on logistical issues with accessing and using the boat launches</li></ul>Your feedback will help build an understanding of just how much these assets are being used and the variety of ways that they are currently being used.The survey results will be used to inform an asset management strategy for the ongoing maintenance and continued improvement of these spaces.

Boat Launch and Water Access Point Survey

The County of Prince Edward, with support from its consultants WSP Canada Inc., is developing a Cultural Heritage Master Plan (CHMP). This plan will help manage and protect Prince Edward County&#39;s built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes. The CHMP will align with the municipality&#39;s <a href="https://www.thecounty.ca/government/council/corporate-strategic-plan/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">strategic plan</a> and heritage planning goals and will build upon the municipality&#39;s <a href="https://www.thecounty.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Heritage-Conservation-Strategy-Staff-Report.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Heritage Conservation Strategy (2011)</a>.Throughout the process, the municipality and consultant team will seek input from the community, knowledge keepers, and all relevant stakeholders as it:<ul><li>Develops the cultural heritage landscape strategy</li><li>Identifies potential cultural heritage landscapes </li><li>Finds opportunities to improve the management of important built heritage resources and cultural heritage landscapes </li></ul>Check out the FAQ section at the side of this page to learn more about cultural heritage landscapes and built heritage resources.

Cultural Heritage Master Plan

The County of Prince Edward is reviewing the Shore Lands designation of the Official Plan. When Council approved the current Official Plan in 2021, it directed staff to review the Shore Lands designation to determine if this designation is needed and/or which lands are best suited for this designation.The Official Plan identifies Shore Lands as an important resource that shall be managed in a way that promotes appropriate and sustainable development, with a focus on tourism and enhancing public access to the waterfront.Shore Lands support a broad range of land and water-based recreational, tourism-related commercial and residential uses, which will continue to be developed in a sustainable manner that protects water resources and shoreline features, as well as enhancing the public&rsquo;s access to the water&rsquo;s edge.The review of the Shore Lands designation will take place in two phases.Phase 1 -- October 2024 - January 2025: A municipally initiated Official Plan amendment to remove the Shore Lands designation from properties where the Shore Lands designation overlaps with Natural Heritage features and areas identified in the Official Plan. The municipality is proposing this change because certain uses permitted in the Shore Land designation have a greater potential for adverse impacts on natural environment features such as wetlands, significant woodlands, and escarpments. Additionally, the municipality proposes removing the Shore Lands designation in two areas outside the Natural Core Areas where development would not normally be supported under the policies of the Official Plan. These two additional areas are lands south of the Isaiah Tubbs Resort and lands at the end of Cressy Point.The proposed Official Plan amendment would change the designation of these properties to either the Agricultural or Rural designation as illustrated on the four maps posted under &quot;Important Documents&quot; on the Have Your Say page.Phase 2 -- January 2025 - May 2025: An evaluation of the goals, objectives, and policies of the Shore Lands designation.A comprehensive review of the designation will consider if the goals and objectives are still relevant and appropriate, and if the policies need to be updated.The review may also result in further changes to the schedules of the Official Plan, including Schedule A: Land Use Designations, and possibly Schedule F: Recreation and Tourism.<h2>Get Involved:</h2>The municipality will engage the community throughout the review process. Engagement activities will include a statutory public open house and a public meeting under the Planning Act. Shore Lands Designation Review

OverviewThe County of Prince Edward is reviewing the <a href="https://www.thecounty.ca/residents/services/planning/secondary-plans/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Wellington Secondary Plan</a>.The municipality is undertaking the review and update to ensure that the policies, land uses, and mapping in the existing <a href="https://www.thecounty.ca/residents/services/planning/secondary-plans/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Wellington Secondary Plan</a> align with applicable legislation, policies, and local needs, including but not limited to:<ul><li>the Provincial Planning Statement 2024;</li><li>the Official Plan for Prince Edward County 2021;</li><li>the new Wellington Heritage Conservation District 2023</li><li>Bill 185, Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, 2024</li><li>Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act, 2022</li><li>Bill 109, the More Homes for Everyone Act, 2022</li><li>Bill 108, the More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019</li></ul>What is a secondary plan?A secondary plan is a land use plan for a particular area of the municipality that is prepared subsequent to an official plan as an amendment. Typically, a secondary plan provides more detailed development policies for the area it covers but still meets the intent of the parent Official Plan document. There are development policies in the current secondary plan that apply to specific Wellington residential areas, mixed use (commercial/residential) areas, employment areas, park and open space areas, environmental protection areas, waste management areas, transportation, village design, cultural heritage, housing, economic development, and more.The current Secondary Plan serves the following purposes:<ul><li>It outlines a vision for Wellington&rsquo;s long-range physical development that reflects the aspirations of the community and professional judgement of the planning team while managing the effects of such development on the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the community;</li><li>It provides strategies and specific implementing actions that will allow this vision to be accomplished;</li><li>It establishes a basis for assessing whether specific development proposals and public works are in harmony with Plan;</li><li>It allows the County, other public agencies, and property owners to coordinate and design projects that will enhance the character of the community in support of the Secondary Plan policies;</li><li>It provides the basis for establishing and setting priorities for relevant studies, plans, and programs that will implement the Plan;</li><li>It reflects and is consistent with the 2014 Provincial Policy Statement; and</li><li>It reflects and is consistent with the general intent and purpose of the County Official Plan.</li></ul>The Plan provides the framework within which decisions on how to grow, provide public services and facilities, and protect and enhance quality of place are to be made. The Plan provides the basis for the passing of municipal by-laws, administration of the planning process, and the matters to be considered in the evaluation of land development.Get InvolvedThe Municipality will engage the community throughout the review process.
