What is Crack Sealing?
Asphalt crack sealing material is used to prevent water from entering the road base and damaging the road during freeze-thaw cycles. It may also improve ride quality.
This work will be completed by contract staff. Staff will monitor works and record the length of road cracks sealed until allocated funding is exhausted.
What is Single Surface Treatment?
One strategy used to extend the lifecycle of surface treated roads is to apply a single surface treatment layer 3-5 years after a double surface treatment (DST) application. To explain, a double surface treated road should remain in "good" condition for approximately 6-8 years. By applying another treatment in years 3-5, the pavement condition is extended another 8 - 10 years prior to another treatment.
This work is completed by contract staff. Operations staff perform minimal site preparation works prior to.
What is Micro Surfacing?
Micro Surfacing is in general a surface treatment that applies emulsified asphalt and mineral aggregates over a road. They can be designed to correct rutting, improve inadequate pavement cross sections, and enhance frictional properties of structurally sound polished pavements. This treatment extends the life of pavement by 4 to 8 years.
This work is completed by contract staff. Operations staff perform minimal site preparation works prior to.
What is Double Surface Treatment (Reconstruction)?
Road sections that are at or near complete failure cannot be rehabilitated and must be reconstructed. A low-cost option is to pulverize the road, re-grade with added granular and apply a Double Surface Treatment (DST). Some site works such as culvert replacements or ditching is required. The additional volume of works requested may be in excess of available internal resources to complete.
Additional funds are requested to arrange Private Contractors under the supervision of County Staff to perform local repairs and drainage improvements as necessary.
