In 2025, Council directed staff to develop a Youth Engagement Strategy to strengthen how young people interact with local government and share their ideas, experiences, and challenges. Extensive consultation took place in 2026, and the final Youth Engagement Strategy was approved by Council in September 2026. It is intended to better understand youth needs, amplify youth voices, and increase feelings of belonging within the community.

Work related to youth engagement will be implemented over the short-, medium-, and long-term. To date, a number of action items have already been completed, including:

  • Municipal Mondays at PECI provide high school students with monthly opportunities to connect with municipal staff and learn about local projects, services, and career pathways.
  • Distribution of laptops to The ROC and the Library for youth use, supporting access to technology while extending the life of retired municipal devices and reducing e-waste.
  • Launching @PECYouth on Instagram to share events, opportunities, and activities for young people in the County
  • Free transit for high school students to improve access to programs, services, employment, and community spaces
  • 2nd Annual Mental Health Resource Fair at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) on Sept 24, 2026

    Prince Edward County Youth Survey - 2026

    We want to hear from you! 


    The municipality is working to better understand the needs, experiences, and ideas of young people in our community. This survey builds on conversations with local youth and is part of a broader effort to create more inclusive spaces, programs, and opportunities. Whether you have a lot to say or just a few ideas, every response makes a difference. 

    This survey should take about 5–10 minutes to complete and responses are anonymous.

    Youth Engagement - The HUB Family Resource Fair

    The County is attending The HUB's Family Resource Fair on March 29, 2026. Information collected from families and youth will help inform the youth engagement strategy.
