Consultation has concluded

The municipality is undertaking a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) study within the Wellington Urban Centre.

Heritage planning consultants Bray Heritage are leading the study to assess whether Wellington meets the requirements of an HCD designation under the Ontario Heritage Act. The HCD designation is the best tool Ontario municipalities have for managing change in beneficial ways.

Draft Study Conclusions and Recommendations

The draft study has been released for public review. The Wellington downtown core study area, as defined in the study, has been determined to meet the province's criteria for designation as a Heritage Conservation District. The study recommends that Council proceed with the next step towards designation, which is for a consulting team to prepare a Heritage Conservation District Plan that would lay out the policies and guidelines for managing change in the district.

Review the draft study and offer your feedback in the guestbook below. Following the public consultation period, staff will incorporate public feedback into the draft study and bring it forward to a statutory public meeting to be held on April 29 during the Committee of the Whole.
